JAMKA
Jamka is Monika Šubrtová and Daniel Kordík.
Jamka sees its creative purpose in sound and structure experiments based on improvising with several digital devices.

Jamka is the outcome of close relation between Monika and Daniel. No less is it the outcome of friendship among the members of Urbsounds Collective (for that reason see also http://urbsounds.sk). Jamka has roots in D.I.Y. punk, free tekkno and electronic club scene and in the project of Exurbia.

Exurbia
Exurbia started as one man project (Daniel Kordík) in summer 1999. The sound came out of sound collages made from audio tapes (cutting the sound out and pasting it to another tape, creating thus unique sound chains and amplifying them by using a guitar effects).
That time Exurbia released two tape recordings for friends.
1. Discontinuous vibrations (1999)
2. New technology needs new ideology (2000)

Urbsounds Collective
In 2001 Exurbia changed the sound, style of work and enlarged of Monika Šubrtova. Exurbia was one of the co-founders of Urbsounds Collective in October 2001. Exurbia, Urbanfailure and Urbanox (now RBNX) released together a cd-r called “Urb Sound Systems/3 Way Noise and Experimental Split”.
The sound of that time Exurbia could be described as minimal electro with readable loops and suggestions of melodies.

Tracks changed into songs
The structure of sound chains began to look more like songs. In September 2002 Exurbia changed its name. Jamka was “the written reaction” to the change in style getting closer to song structures. In December 2002 Jamka released a self made cd-r containing 8 tracks. After two concerts, Jamka returned to a more-or-less improvised electronic music without fixed structures and in summer 2002 released a cd-r split with RBNX.

Now
Broken
Geometric
Unsteady
Irregular
Robotic
Dialectics not just between its initiators but between suggested rhythms and arrhythmic starts and stops as well. Music that cracks and breaks down and yet finds another fusion.
Due to “diktat of labels and styles” Jamka decided to describe itself first as “digital deconstructed” (negative label). “Digital” because of the digital devices and reference to electronic scene and “deconstructed” because of the deconstruction of melodies, rhythm structures and the way people usually play this kind of machines. Although sounds and structures are reconstructed on a new level.

Free Digital
Once having a party a friend of Jamka said: “Your music sounds very “cubic”. As if two chaotically moving robot were having a conversation together.”
It is like when several sound networks meet and run against each other in one place. Meeting point having no order. Nets being interwoven through each other and creating special kinds of hybrids.
“We like it more anarchistic, even more dadaistic. Our sound is very sharp and cloddish. Therefore another positive label: Free Digital.”

Somewhere between these two negative and positive movements, there is the territory occupied by Jamka.
Welcome inside!
